George William (Butch) Clayton, III, made his peaceful transition from this life on May 3, 2012. Born in Sylva on August 18, 1960, Butch was the son of the late George William Clayton, Jr. and the late Hazel Mae Morgan Clayton.
After receiving his certificate from Cullowhee High School in 1982, Butch was employed at Webster Enterprises before moving to Asheville where he worked at Liberty Corner Enterprises and Goodwill Industries, from which he retired in 2010.
Butch is survived by his sister, Mary Clayton-McGlauflin, and niece, Erin McGlauflin, of Maggie Valley, and the residents and staff of UMAR Asheville group homes who were his family for the past 14 years.
Butch enjoyed life, and his joyful innocence coupled with an impish playfulness made him a great light to this world; he left his handprint on many hearts.
A service of remembrance to celebrate Butch's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 223 Hillside Street, Asheville, NC with the Rev. In-Yong Lee officiating.
His family wishes to thank Sara Galvin and the staff of UMAR group homes; Katy Heimlich, his case manager; the trainers at Liberty Corner and Goodwill Industries; LINCS Day Services; and Autumn Care Nursing & Rehab in Waynesville for the exceptional and loving care and attention he received from them.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to UMAR,-WNC, Inc., PO Box 1558, Huntersville, NC 28070-1558.
