Charles Harold Watkins died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at his home. Mr. Watkins was born in Buncombe County, and was a son of the late John B. and Dovie Revis Watkins. He served as a corporal with the Army Air Corps and was a former driver for Blue Ridge Trucking Company. He tutored in the Buncombe County School System for seven years. Mr. Watkins taught Sunday School and served as Superintendent of Sunday School for 30 years. He was an excellent Bible teacher and speaker. In addition, he served in Puerto Rico doing missions and church work. He will be missed by all, especially his wife, Lottie H. Watkins, who cared for him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Freda and Larry Mathews, daughter, Brinda Ramsey, daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Gary Moore, son and daughter-in-law, Charles II and Becky Watkins; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whom he loved to play with on the farm, riding the little red tractor that Charles bought from a man whom he loved as a dad, Arthur Hill. Special appreciation goes to Dr. Greg Glance and his late wife, Sherry, Dr. Chang Lim, Linda Barnes, P.A. Lori and all the wonderful nurses, and especially to Lottie Trull, caretaker, for the loving care and concern. Charles' testimony will live beyond his life. Celebrate his life with us at a service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Kevin Chapman and Dr. John Tiller officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. His family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

I will always be greatful to both Mr. and Mrs. Watkins for the way they took my son Alvin into their hearts and helped him so much in school, he also will always have a special place in his heart for you both!!
