Larue Gentry Sams, 89, died Saturday, February 4, 2012. Mrs. Sams was born August 8, 1922, in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Willard Cordell and Zora Elizabeth Hunnicutt Gentry. She was married to the late Frank Sams, Jr. . She worked as a cook with the Grove Park Inn and the Sheraton Hotels and was a member of French Broad Baptist Church. Surviving are her son, Johnny Darrell Sams (the late Sandra Jean Sams), and Patricia Gail Maynard and her husband, Carl Daniel, all of Asheville; grandchildren, Billy Darrell Sams, Angela Suzanne Johnson and husband, Gabriel, Daniel Brian Maynard, and Sabrina Michelle Moore and husband, Robert; and great-grandchildren, Allison and Kasey Sams, Jacob Johnson, and Jarrett and Alexis Moore. "In loving memory of our dear mother, the most caring and loving mother in the world. May she rest in peace with our heavenly Father. She will surely be missed, but thought of every day" - your loving family. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
