Edgar Lee Satterfield, 84, of 21 Rodgers Place, Asheville, died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at the Asheville VA Medical Center.
Mr. Satterfield was born in Knox Co., TN, and was a son of the late Arthur Lee and Ruth Bridges Satterfield, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Christine Satterfield. He served as a staff sergeant with the 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division, US Army, during WW II.
He worked as manager of M&J Finance and also in sales at Mathews Ford and Woodcock Motors. He was a member of West ASheville Baptist CHurch and a long-time member of the West Asheville Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by two sons, John A. Satterfield and wife, Vicky, and Edgar Lee Satterfield, Jr. and wife, Shirley; grandchildren, Danielle, Josiah, Jesse, Jeremiah, Jordan, Jasmine, and Jason; and three sisters, Retha Hill, Lois Metcalf, and Glenna Moye.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Tony Hooper and Brent Keating officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow at Roberts Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

One of a kind…there will NEVER be another like my Uncle Lee!!! From teaching me about Greens…how to trade cars, why changing the oil in the car is important(who knew???)…to being so proud when he came to my school(Candler elem)for Terrific Kids…Uncle Lee was the best!!! Love, Pam
I enjoyed knowing Lee through West Asheville Baptist Church and The West Asheville Kiwanis Club. He always loved to spend his time helping other people and was a great Kiwanian. To his family I express my deepest sympathy for your loss. Just remember his leaving here was Heaven’s gain.
